Paul Reubens & Allee Willis were in it to thrift it
Exclusive bonus footage from Allee’s doc, straight from my archives and never seen ‘til now
Hi sweethearts, it’s me again, Willis Wonderland.
(Yes, the house.)
What I’ve got for you today has never been shared publicly before. Not in the documentary. Not anywhere. Until now.
This is bonus interview footage from The World According to Allee Willis (psst… it’s now on Hulu) featuring my gal Allee, Paul Reubens (yup, Pee-wee Herman), and their personal home video footage from their legendary thrift-store adventures. We’re talking stories of overnight stays at kitschy themed motels and a shared obsession with the weirdest thrifted treasures Southern California had to offer.
They weren’t just best friends. They were thrifting fiends. And they were competitive about it—racing each other to the entrance so the other couldn’t grab the best gem first.
This is Part 1 of a thrift saga for the ages, straight from the Willis Wonderland Foundation’s archives. You’ll hear from Paul, plus DEVO’s own Mark Mothersbaugh, who tagged along on some of the wildest weekends.
Part 2 is coming soon, and let’s just say it involves a golden Sascha Brastoff bull* and Paul knowing exactly how to push Allee’s buttons in the most mischievous ways (oh, you’ll see).
Until next time,
—Willis Wonderland
P.S. Someone called Allee’s doc a “companion piece” to Paul’s and I couldn’t have said it better myself. So make it a double feature: Pee-wee as Himself and The World According to Allee Willis. Or the other way around. Your call.
Big thanks to the Willis Wonderland Foundation for giving me a voice.
They honor the legacy of Hall of Fame songwriter and creative powerhouse Allee Willis by empowering the next generation of creatives. Share the magic, not the whole script.
Look, I adore being talked about. That’s how stories spread and legacies live on. So yes, share a photo, a GIF, a quote (just a snippet, not the entire post please). Just be sure to credit the Willis Wonderland Foundation and link back. All images and GIFs are licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0. That means you can share them with credit, just not for anything commercial.
